There is an ever-increasing choice of these smart little devices, and when used as a promotional giveaway, they can be incredibly powerful. But from the hundreds you can choose from, which one’s the right one for your requirements?
When selecting ANY promotional gift or giveaway, you need to consider the usual six questions: who, what, when, where, how, and why, but don’t forget the other two:
What reaction are you seeking to get, and perhaps the most important one of all,
How do you want the recipient to feel?
It doesn’t take long to drill down to the answers to these simple questions, and the answers are specific to you and your marketing campaign. Two simple examples of wildly different answers would be:
1: Using a USB Flash Drive as a giveaway at a trade show. The client buys the lowest possible product, with the lowest possible memory, preloads the device with their latest brochure and pricing, and hands them out in goody bags to anyone passing their stand. The recipient doesn’t even know the device is in the bag, and has no reaction. It’s a bit like handing a brochure out.
2: Using a USB Memory Stick as a business gift. The client wants to say ‘thank you’ to their top re-sellers, and at the end of each one to one meeting, their relationship manager gives them a neatly boxed device. The memory stick itself is a real beauty, its a pleasure to hold, maybe a leather one, or a heavy in the hand, metal one. It’s got a generous memory capacity, and is subtly branded. The device has been pre-loaded with the latest sales incentive details, so that when the recipient plugs into his computer, they’ll read all about the details of how they can win a holiday for two to an exotic location. The recipient may well get back in touch with the provider to thank them for the gift and to say how excited they are about the latest sales incentive.
I’m sure you can see how very different these uses are. Each campaign has different goals and will inevitably have different requirements for their promotional USB Flash Drive.
